I am so Happy for my Wife Karla Kelsey

Sawtooth Poetry Prize Winners!

Ahsahta Press is delighted to announce the winner of the fourth annual Sawtooth Poetry Prize competition. Karla Kelsey of Denver, Colorado, was selected by Carolyn Forché for her manuscript Knowledge, Forms, The Aviary.

The runner-up for the prize was Heidi Lynn Staples of Syracuse, New York, with her manuscript Dog Girl, which will also receive publication by Ahsahta Press.

We received 580 entries for this year's prize, and, as has proven with each year the contest has continued, this year's submissions were of the highest quality yet. As the judging proceeded, each manuscript was carefully read by at least two members of the editorial board as well as by Ahsahta Press Director Janet Holmes, and of these 43 were named semifinalists, and 19 of these were forwarded to the contest judge as finalists. They are listed below. The final judge for the 2006 competition, for which manuscripts can be received between January 1 and March 1, 2006, will be D.A. Powell.

Ahsahta Press sincerely apologizes for the delay in this year's announcement, which was unforeseen and unavoidable.
